Wolfgang Erb, born in 1954 in Offenbach/M, Germany, is a well known artist in the Rhein-Main area in Germany.
He already participated in numerous exhibitions across Germany, which include cities such as Offenbach, Frankfurt, Seligenstadt and Bonn.
Wolfgang worked over 30 years as a educational director, focusing mainly on arts, mathematics and sports.
Since 2001 Wolfgang is highly active in an arts studio in Frankfurt working together with other artists. In the last couple of years, he also intensified his work in his own studio at home.
His paintings are mainly based on colours that portray sensuality.
The socialpolitic background is of less importance. Wolfgangs paintings draw the viewer’s attention by taking the viewer on a journey to his own fantasy world.
From time to time his materials, formats and topics changed and grew, until he discovered his own unique style, which he is now taking to limits in his recent on-point artworks.
While viewing his artworks, artists such as Pollock, Rothko, Richter and Peter Casagrande come to the viewers mind. All artists that inspired him.
There are hints of abstract expressionism, gestural abstraction and action painting in his artworks. All these associations show the various, nearly endless individual opportunities in today’s modern-art.
Wolfgang’s paintings mainly focus on strong, powerful acrylics using bigger formats like 100x120cm or 100x140cm canvases.
Using wide brushes, spatulas and pouring techniques or movement of the canvas, Wolfgang invents abstract colourful compositions. These compositions include some kind of randomness occasionally.
His paintings create and include tensions through the existence of free space and spatially impressions. Poppy gestures and intense colours combined with tiny accents on empty endless backgrounds add to his extraordinary artworks.
While drawing the viewer’s attention directly and pointing it to oneself, Wolfgang denies any kind of thematic help, leaving the viewer alone with his artworks.
With this exact intention, the lines and surfaces painted in different layers, leave a lot of free space for the viewers own fantasy and interpretations.
The mostly abstract artworks try to catch moods which are mainly happy and optimistic.
